OUr Students…
What does a OneStarfish Student look like?
On entry into the program, the candidate will be in years 2-4 at school, experiencing some kind of disadvantage; which may include, but is not limited to: financial circumstances; family violence, family breakdown, parent with a disability (physical or mental), sibling with a disability (physical or mental), parent has been or is incarcerated or other (by negotiation with the Foundation). The child, critically, must also demonstrate dedication and perseverance in their pursuit of learning and potentially other areas of their life. We are looking for above average demonstration of effort, the quality of endeavour. We don’t just want to help the disadvantaged we are instead seeking to amplify a young person’s efforts by seeking to reward a young person who has survived everything life has thrown at them, and still continues to persevere. We want to give them that boost to help them overcome the adversity and reach their full potential.
They may be a very bright student, but they may also be a student that has persisted in the face of adversity in order to achieve ordinary grades. Ideally a OneStarfish child would have a passion or interest that is worth fostering or developing but this is outside the family’s ability or willingness to provide for.
